Environmental Assessment for Eco Express
One of the dangers involved with building anything is the potential for environmental contamination. This can be from buildings previously or currently on the site, adjacent contamination, or hazardous waste percolating through ground water. An environmental assessment is performed to determine if anything bad is in the soil. There are several levels or assessment, depending on the risk. In a level one assessment, the environmental assessment company will do a thorough investigation of municipal records, and look at the current surroundings to determine if a more invasive assessment is required.
In our case, we needed a level one assessment, the simplest and cheapest kind. We had some concerns because the property is adjacent to an operating gas station and in close proximity to two closed gas stations. Luckily the assessment found there were no reports of spills or leaks, and the history of the site was fairly benign.
